I couldn't help noticing that the license plates are not EU - are they US Army base ones?

Ya "US Forces" plates... they say "USA" with a little cross-hair looking thing instead of D with the EU stars above it, which you can also get downtown, but you pay full price.

When I cross borders, I need to obtain the little oval sticker that says "USA" on it also... I can't use the "D" one on a US forces plated car.

I did overhear some of the people at the license station that Germany is going to a standardized plate or something for the EU, and the deal is, they only give so many numbers to USAREUR... so say they get 10,000 numbers to give away for a couple months... well, there's a lot more than 10,000 cars here, so there is going to be a shortage of plates according to them.

Hopefully they have a grace period for us at least...
