I rode in a Focus C-Max... it's BIG for it's outside dimensions. I've also been in some sort of large VW car/van thing that held 3 people in comfort in the back seat (I'm 6'3"... IN THE BACK!).
Weird thing was the stick [censored] came out of the dash instead of the floor... if it did come out of the floor, it'd have a shifter as long as a truck!

???
Ford dropped the Freestyle (aka 500 wagon, sorta) for slow sales, and it was woefully underpowered. I'm pretty sure I heard it surmised that when the new Duratec 35 came out, Ford was at least considering returning the Freestyle to the showrooms with the new engine under the hood. The extra power would in theory make the Freestyle more palatable to buyers.
Do what?
The Freestyle is doing just fine. More than fine actually, as it's sales growth is outpacing almost every car Ford has. Sales are up over 60%.
Hmm...I wish I could remember where I'd seen that, although one of the articles posted in this thread said something about it going on hiatus in 2007, I think. Either way, I'd rather it stick around.

my mom decided to never buy a ford again after that nightmare
Had a used Aerostar, had no major problems with it for the 3 or so years we drove it. We traded a 6 cylinder Dodge Caravan that didn't have the power to get out of it's own way. The Ford had a 6 cylinder in it, don't know what size, but it had plenty of power for a van. It was a dependable vehicle for us at the time.
