i blew one of them somehow - even though they are rated at 150 w and my [censored] radioshack amp is only 100w - wonder how that happened. anyway they are discontinued now so i dont know what to replace em with. i thought they sounded great - they definitely treated me right - except for the whole breaking thing. oh well. so what do you guys recommend?

it's called dirty power, A.K.A. clipping. Get a cleaner amp and then get the replacement speakers. I'd say a nice set of Image Dynamics Chameleons or something along those lines would suit you decently. Or maybe a DIY set. If you go DIY, check out the Lotus Excel's. Awesome mid/midbass drivers.

Clipping isn't a sign of a "dirty" amp, it's the result of improper installation. All amps, even polished and waxed ones clip.

Yeah, true, but a very well built Zapco 100 watt compared to a thrown together in China Radio Shack, there is a difference.... Not a whole lot, but there is some. And user error is the #1 killer of audio products.

Yes, chances are the Zapco 100w amp is better built and probably has underrated their amp. If both tested at 100w, the difference then comes down to build quality.

Not sure if they were talking about this, but I'm just going to throw this one out anyway... make sure you have a good ground.
