OH, and to piggyback on these guys...
The trunk isn't supposed to pop itself all the way open when you release it. Think of a station wagon/hatchback where you have to lift the hatch/gate up. The struts are there just to hold the trunk up, which doesn't work well in high winds...
On both of the Contours I've had, neither of them had the trunk move at all when you release it, and I've never had problems with them relatching.
