Dunno, how many people use the search as it is? If you saw a post that said: "ATTENTION: Mondeo Bodykits do NOT fit Contours", would you make the same post? If there was a link to the FAQ, it might get used as often as does the search engine.
Personally I like the search engine, it gives me answers without having to wait for people to respond to my questions. I can usually find whatever it is I'm looking for right away.
Sticky notes would always be at the top of the forum to answer those same old questions...
