MOS(military occupational status)

Just to nitpick, it's Military Occupational Specialty. And good luck with the AirForce. It's about as Civilian oriented as the services go, so when you get out, you should be fully prepared for the civilian world and you'll have the training, responsibility, and dedication to succeed.

Muhaha!!! I'll nitpick both of ya!

It's not MOS in the Air Force, it's AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code).

I totally agree with you, Plato... it's WAY different than the Army. Like I'm an electrician, I work 7-5 on electrical jobs. Nothing else (except PT, of course). When I deploy, I work on electrical stuff (unless you're T tasked like I was for convoy duty... but I STILL ended up just doing electrical work for em!).

I've seen guys in the Army that were doing something totally different than they were trained to do for peacetime. My friend was field artillery... when it came up for them to go to Iraq, the Army decided they should all be MPs. Then ya got the Navy... they seem to have contrasting peacetime/wartime duties (like an electronics mate that clears boats of drugs when deployed).

Kinda humorous story with the MOS thing...

When I was in Kuwait with the Army, they were curious b/c a lot of them have never seen Air Force guys before (the Army Nat'l Guardsmen at least). They would ask what our MOS was, and since I know that means job, I would tell them I'm an electrician. They'd come back and say something like "55Zulu" or something. I'd be like "uhhh... WTH is that?" They'd respond with Supply or Ammo or something to that nature.

BTW, your greatest chance of getting deployed with the Army, according to the AF Times, is to be Security Forces (cops) or CE (carpenters/electricians/plumbers/hvac/etc).
