I am getting a new audio system installed in my '99 Contour, but it will have a blue display. Everything else as far as gauges (including the heating/cooling gauges) light up green at night.

Can this be changed by putting in different bulbs behind the gauges or is the green color "molded" into the gauges themselves?

I have been thinking about some of those gauge overlays, but first off, I can't seem to find a good place to get them for the 1999 model year that HAS the tach (not SVT), and I would like to get a matching one for the heating/cooling gauges too.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I do believe LEDs are the way to go, and yes they can be replaced as many have done so

Do people usually use just plain LEDs or get the ones with the "socket" attached so that they just plug in?

Also, if people use the socket style, what about the ones behind the heat/cooling? Are those sockets?

I just want to plan ahead so that I can spend just one day ripping things apart and putting it back together instead of ripping it apart, finding out what I need, put it back together, get the LEDs, rip it all apart again, and install everything...

Thanks for any tips.

I am pretty good with wiring and such, so I will probably just do them myself for the window switches. Seems easy enough. Thanks anyway.

There is like 1 more day to get on the GB for the S&H guages, which you can get any color backlighting you want just about.

If you don't want those, you can pull the cluster, take off the faces, scrape off the green, and put an overlay on the face and put it all back together. I got my overlays from importintelligence.com... I have gagues with a tach non-svt or V6. For LEDs, I put red #74 wedge type from superbrightleds.com behind them.

I thought the Groub buy was forever (well, not literally) but i thought you could order them at any time becuase he just makes them from scratch anyways.

Your light set up seems pretty cool. Do you have any pics?

Do you have any pics of your gauges with the LEDs? Day/night?
