First of all I never said I listened to every new thing that came out? Saying that I did is false and makes your argument ridiculous. What I said was

Don't put a label on me like you know me because you don't.

Again you're making things up because I never said I don't like new music. We can agree do disagree about music so lay off .

The System Has Failed topped my 2004 list. I've always liked Megadeth, but never thought of them as a great band until I heard this.

Not really a fan here, but I did accidentally but this one from BMG, so I should give it a listen.

Natural Born Chaos is one of my top twenty favorite albums of all time, and despite Figure Number Five's strong commerical leanings I liked it as well. Stabbing the Drama didn't do a lot for me, though; it had some of the elements that made NBC great, but sounded to me like more of a return to their A Predator's Portrait and even Chainheart Machine sound, and I'm pretty lukewarm on their early efforts. I should go back and give StD another listen, though.

I'm afraid I just don't "get" Strapping Young Lad, but some of Devin Townsend's other projects are phenomonal. I have an, uh, extralegal copy of his as yet unreleased album Synchestra, and it's incredible. Do you have his Ocean Machine and Infinity albums?

I couldn't stand their first album, but what I've heard from Toxicity and Hypnotize/Mezmerize is fairly interesting. I need to investigate further...

Okay, I've got Bruch Dickinson and Opeth on the list, probably a few fans of them on this board...
1. Redemption--The Fullness of Time
2. The Lord Weird Slough-Feg--Atavism
3. Volbeat--The Strength - The Sound - The Song
4. Bruce Dickinson--Tyranny of Souls
5. Opeth--Ghost Reveries
6. Disturbed--Ten Thousand Fists
7. Nevermore--This Godless Endeavor
8. Stream of Passion--Embrace the Storm
9. Novact--Tales from the Soul
10. Kamelot--The Black Halo
11. Communic--Conspiracy in Mind
12. Dream Theater--Octavarium

You got several of the ones I was going to mention, especially Dream Theater and Opeth. Nevermore's release was pretty good. I haven't heard Kamelot's new album, I'll have to check that out. I would like to add:
Enemy of God ~ Kreator
Character ~ Dark Tranquility
Touched by the Crimson King ~ Demons & Wizards
The Funeral Album ~ Sentenced
Paradise Lost and Porcupine Tree also released new albums this year and I've heard good things, though I have yet to listen to either of those. (I'm getting around to it!!)

The titled song is the first song I've heard from them, and I like a few other songs on the CD. Haven't heard anything else from them, though.

I heard of them via the song "Relentless" that Roadrunner put on the MTV2 Headbangers Ball CD. Then I heard "Love?" and liked it, so I bought the Alien CD. I like the aggressive nature of the songs.

I like[d] nearly all the songs off the Toxicity CD, but I agree with you on the self titled... not so good. I only liked "Sugar" for some reason (not that great of a song), and "Spiders" was a good tune IMO.
I haven't heard any songs off Hypnotize, but while I was in Kuwait, the English station played "B.Y.O.B." I didn't like it at first, b/c it sounded like a lot of random noise thrown together, but it caught on with me after a while.
Really I have been behind the curve on picking up music. I no longer get the chance to hear stuff like the old "Metal Meltdown" they used to play when I was in middle school. Radio stations near where I've lived blow. A lot of the music I do get exposed to I hear off Chronix Agression/Metal and Hard Drive Radio. I stream Chronix via iTunes and download Hard Drive from their site.
--------------------------------------
First off, a disclaimer... this is on the limits of how soft of music I listen to...
I heard this band on Hard Drive yesterday when I downloaded last week's episode... The band is Flyleaf (or if you prefer thier myspace).
They are a light rock band, but the chick singer sounds like Avril Lavigne's lost twin (no I don't like Avril's music!). The band is cooler than her's, though. Anyway, some of you guys here might like it.

I used to be the kid who said, "new music is no good". I was stuck in the past. If you acutally take the time and listen to what is out there many will quickly change there tune. My big problem tho is the ones who say "music on mtv/radio is there for a reason, because it is good" alluding to the conclusion that anything not played on the radio isnt good. That is garbage. It isnt played on the radio because it is good, its played on the radio becuase big money hungry corporations tell you its good. and thats the last thing I want, people telling me what to listen to. Sure, System of a down - BYOB is the [censored], dont get me wrong, but take the time and listen to the whole album, its amazing.
There is great music being made everyday, however you have to look somewhere other than the mass media (radio/mtv for the slow) to find it.

OOOOOOooooo.... Lotta good metal in this thread....
Top: Masterplan - "Aeronautics"
Rest: Bruce Dickinson - "Tyranny of Souls" (still no Chemical Wedding, though...) Brainstorm - "Liquid Monster" Mercenary - "11 Dreams" Soulfly - "Dark Ages" Children of Bodom - "Are You Dead Yet?" Sentenced - "The Funeral Album" Light This City - "Remains of the Gods" Dark Tranquility - "Character" Frameshift - "An Absence of Empathy"
Runners-up: New ones from God Forbid, Fear Factory, Green Carnation, Swarm of the Lotus, Porcupine Tree, Soilwork.
Aught six should be good.... new In Flames at least... And when the hell is the next Lamb of God album surfacing?

Soilwork - Stabbing the Drama
Mudvayne - Lost and Found
Sevendust - Next
Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil
(edit)Trivium - Ascendancy(/edit)
I'm sure I'm forgetting some that were released in 2005.
