Chances are the only bands on my list anyone's heard of are Disturbed and Dream Theater; I couldn't stand Disturbed's first two albums, but Ten Thousand Fists was a great departure from their old run of the mill nu-metal.

Okay, I've got Bruch Dickinson and Opeth on the list, probably a few fans of them on this board...

1. Redemption--The Fullness of Time
2. The Lord Weird Slough-Feg--Atavism
3. Volbeat--The Strength - The Sound - The Song
4. Bruce Dickinson--Tyranny of Souls
5. Opeth--Ghost Reveries
6. Disturbed--Ten Thousand Fists
7. Nevermore--This Godless Endeavor
8. Stream of Passion--Embrace the Storm
9. Novact--Tales from the Soul
10. Kamelot--The Black Halo
11. Communic--Conspiracy in Mind
12. Dream Theater--Octavarium

Werd. I didn't buy a single album in 2005. I've been listening to Welcome to Jamrock by Damian Marley, which was released in 2005. So I guess since it's about the only 2005 album I've given a good listen to, it would probably have to be on my favorite list.

Nevermore and Opeth rule!

I rated them 1-5 asterisks:

  • 10 Years - The Autumn Effect (*)

  • American Head Charge - The Feeding (*****)

  • Chimaira's self titled (*****)

  • Dark New Day - Twelve Year Silence (***)

  • Devildriver - The Fury of our Maker's Hand (*****)

  • Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists (***)

  • Five Bolt Main - Venting (Lead singer is Chris Voltz from Flaw ***)

  • Megadeth - Back to the Start, Greatest Hits (**)

  • Mudvayne - Lost and Found (***)

  • Seether - Karma and Effect (****)

  • Soilwork - Stabbing the Drama (****)

  • Strapping Young Lad - Alien (*****)

  • System of a Down - Mezmerize (****)

  • Trivium - Asendancy (*****)

So the only CD I was disappointed with was 10 Years... the one good song "Wasteland" is totally different than the others. Kinda like Mudvayne's LD50 with Dig.

Heh, is this a "who knows the most underground bands" thread ?

Anyway, favourite albums of 2005 so far for me:

    Donnas - Gold Medal
    Beck - Guero
    Coldplay - X&Y
Matthew Good - In a Coma
Depeche Mode - Playing the Angel (John the Revelator is excellent)

Beck album is really really damn good, and oddly enough the Guerolito remix followup really wakes up some of the weaker songs on the original album.

Donnas album is probably one of the best riff rock albums I've heard in a long time. Dumb lyrics, but really really catchy and crunchy riffs. One of the best rock albums in '05 imo.
