Why waste money having a shop do all the work and then skimp out and put in a POS stock diff. Totally crazy. Use you damn credit card and pay it off over a couple of months if you have to. Sure you may be $20-$30 interest not paying it off in one go. But compare that to the $$$$$ you will pay when you blow up the diff again. Use your head!!!!
Case in point: 2 blown stock diffs in a row!
Stazi,
I don't see how one person blowing stock diff twice is proof that replacing stock for stock is as bad an idea as you make it out to be. Does anyone know blackbird personally and his driving style?
Should Plato do it right the first time? Almost for sure.
But you can't suggest to a college student that he load up his credit card to do so. Take it from someone who was in major credit card debt and paying the minimum each month. To pay off $1,000 of credit card debt by paying the minimum each month?
I've helped two friends get out of major credit card debt by being financially responsible. You should not spend money you don't have or cannot pay off very quickly.

I have the diff still and it has not got a mark on it. Part of that is the traction on stock tires but mostly the one I got was a decent diff. We're talking 300 wHP with stiffened mounts and suspension, meaning more load on the diff.
I'm sure I would have grenaded it eventually when I switched to stickier tires, but not with the basic 2.5L engine I wouldn't have.
One person who went through two stock diffs - driving style unknown.
One person with a 3L and then 3L turbo w/ stock diff at the track that's just fine.
The blown SVT I bought and tore down was ragged to death by a teenager to 100k+ miles. Pulled the diff and it looked fine.
Is it hit or miss on diffs?
