OK, Im taking a little (read: 5-hour) road trip to my aunt/uncle/cousins in about 2 weeks in Red WIng MN, and I REALLY want to rub my car in their nose (They made fun of my car, made a bad business deal, lost theirs, and now have a 1994 Camaro with a fart-can exhaust and manual windows smile ) so I want to REALLY shine mine up (inside and out) the 'Stique. What would you recommend to REALLY shine it up? Something FAIRLY inexpencive, and something that I can run to Wal-Mart or Target and get. Also, I want to quiet down the car for that 5-hour drive...I already have the rear doors STUFFED with plastic bags (its ghetto yeah, but it works smile ) but theres still alot of road noise, what could I buy that's MADE to eliminate/minimize road noise? Also, the doord arent that quality feeling/sounding, any way to change that? (Im thinking I could buy some more weather stripping and it would add more resistance when closing...so it wouldnt rattle as much) Basically, I want to REALLY get the car quiet, and shiny. Thanks for the help!

-Brad

Get a BMW.

Or you could try some polyfill in the doors. Dunno if it would work, but it's cheap.

to minimize road noise, get a more powerful stereo. or go to home depot and get about 20 square feet of FELT insulation. its cheap, light, and really gets rid of noise. lay it all over the floor and lay your mats on top for the trip. now thats ghetto, but effective

Tred2000SE, already got one laugh but its my moms...not mine...oh well, I like my car enough smile , actually, theres not much that separates the 'Stique from my moms 540, except size, power, SLIGHTLY better handling, (much better ride tho) and its queieter, MUCH quieter. (Although I dont like the power locks on her BMW...that switch in the console confuses me). Yeah, the BMW is a better car, for for nearly 60K, it SHOULD be. The Mystique is about as good as you can get for only 20K. I think the Mystique is a FAR BETTER deal than the BMW was

You're pretty determined on making your car flawless, eh? As far as making the thing shine like a button, buff the thing and wax it. Mirror shine, baby!

For sound deadening, make sure you use something that isn't going to catch fire easliy (a.k.a. fire retardant). I know car audio shops sell rolls of insulation that you can put in your doors and floors. It's expensive but that's the best thing you can do.

Your doors might shut quieter if you grease all the joints and latches. Not a lot of difference but every little bit helps when you're trying to show someone up! laugh

Moonlight, send me a PM before you come down. I go camping right down the road from Red Wing almost every weekend. Maybe we could meet up for a bit when you are down here.

mcguires car soap is the soap i would recomend, and you can get it at any target. fairly cheap. also, use toothbrush and a toothpick with cloth on end to get into the smallest spots. if your looking for perfection, its the smallest things that count. I.E. dirt in pedals, dust in power locks. very mondane things, but when you pay attention to detail, that is when perfection is achieved. whoa now, i sound like a mature person... snap out of it eek eek

im doin a 100 on the highway... so if you do the speed limit get the f*** out of my way.
