This is too hard, for each rapper was top of his game in his era. Can't give an honest impression of Kanye West, WTF nominates that fuggin fool, can't stand him and he hasn't been around too long. I'll sort of rank who I think deserves to be mentioned so..

Old School or older rap
1.) Eazy E.
2.) Too Short (how come no one put him in before)
3.) Ice cube
3-4) Tupac
4.) Dr. Dre
4-5) Public Enemy!
5a) Run-D-MC
5.) Beastie Boys
6.) ICE T
6-7) Snoop Dog
7.) EPMD
8.) Too many other good one's to count, Fat Boys, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince, 2-live Crew, KRS-1

Not so old

1.) Trick Daddy
2.) DMX
3.) Outkast
4.) Master P.
4-5) Cypress Hill
5.) E40

Newer
1.) Eminem (gotta give it to him though he isn't my favorite, he can sell albums and his songs are catchy)
1-2) Outkast
2.) Ludicriss
3.) Snoop Dog

Theres other new ones that I like the music but don't know the names.

Since when is Snoop Dogg "newer"? He has been around since 92. Master P, E40 and Cypress Hill have also been around for awhile.

How long have you been listening to rap? Busta Ryhmes was in a group called Leaders of the New School(note the "New School" part). Their first album came out in like 1991, so Snoop Dogg is definately "newer" unless you just started listening to rap 5 years ago.

Not much newer......Snoop has been around since 92. Remember "Deep Cover?"

You've missed the point.
Any rapper after 1990 should be considered new school or "newer".

Sorry I'm not to old man. I was born in 1984 so 1992 is kind of old school to me. I listed to Snoop and them back then. But I would have to say that no one would call him new school. Hes been around for 14+ years.

I know...tell me about it. Even Master P (who came out like in 95-96) is 10 years old!

If you guys notice, snoop dog is in both newer and old school. I think what is going on is that he produced some dope [censored] back in the day, kinda fell of the map, and now adays he is producing some good but different stuff, more modern, his style is different.

Has anyone seen "fear of a black hat?" It is kind of a spinal tap parody on the rap world. I love "my peanuts"!!!

I would rate BIG high on my list lyrically, but it sounds like he has his mouth full of cotton balls or has an unusually large or swollen tongue so I can't understand 50% of what he says if there is any background noise.

Not sure if I can come up with an order but the following would be on my list.

Dre
Ice Cube
Eminem
Rakim
Buzta Rhymes
2-Pac
Q-tip
Slick Rick
Michel'le (j/k)

Favorite Albums:
X-Clan - To the East Blackwards
Ice Cube - Amerikkka's Most Wanted
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
A Tribe Called Quest - Peoples Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rythm
NWA - Straight Outta Compton
