um, iirc, cube wrote the lyrics, eazy was just talented at delivering them. (going off memory, could be wrong)

I thought it was the good rappers, not writers. If its about delivery, Kanye's not on it.

Actually Talib is off of Rawkus records. Blackstar was an album by Mos Def, IIRC. Rawkus had some really good emcees including kweli/hi-tek, Mos def, Pharoahe Monch, Big L, Company Flow, and a couple others that I can't recall.

In terms of atmosphere as a superb lyricist, I totally agree. Living Legends and him did some stuff that was mind-blowing. You guys who like underground hip hop should listen to spoken word, specifically Saul Williams.

Jay-Z? Kottonmouth Kings? Kanye West? OMG. I swear alot of you shoudl not be posting on this subject if you are going to put this down. Like another poster said, you must be listening to pop, not rap. Jay-Z is possibly one of the worst rappers. He isn't good!!! Some people will never understand. Just because your song is a hit doesnt mean you are a good rapper. Change Clothes, Girls, 99 Questions? Thats straight [censored] rap. It sold but it was basically pop. Here are some notables.

1. Tupac
2. Biggie
3. Jacka (If you haven't heard of him, d/l something)
4. Lil Wayne
5. Z-ro
6. Trae
7. Prodigy
8. Eminem

No particular order after 3. If you are talking about talent then there ya go. No pop fluff here.

jay-z is a good rapper, let him battle 90% of most known rappers and he'd win.

not many if any cassidy shouts, he's the man, til he went to jail

most of the best rappers aren't well known, and are underground.

kanye west is "ok", sometimes.

krayzie bone was/is always good.

I want to murder lil bow-wow.

50 Cent was good before the fame and fortune....is underground stuff was great!

JayZ.....have his albums....wouldn't say is the one of the greatest...he "steals" a lot of lines from fellow rappers/MCs.

Big and Tupac......on the list but not the top. Only reason people classify them as "The Greatest" is because they both died. Neither got a chance to "mellow out."

Eminem is on the list. His early stuff was great, recently a little weaker. Now his lyrics seem to be more for "shock value" than anything. His early stuff was raw.

Early Wutang, Outkast, Nas, and Bone are also on the list. The original MCs from Rawkus....on the list.

Gotta add Twista (being from Chicago).....the early stuff. Making more "love" songs as of late.

Don't let me forget some of the OGs....Rakim, KRS-one, Guru, LL, Ice-T, and Big Daddy Kane

Right now the "best" are all underground. That is the most real and uncut you can get.....seems like money and fame have "tamed" most rappers/MCs.
