That is probably the safest way to do it unless you like tons of wheel hop and braking everything to pieces after dumping the clutch. That is the way it is done/taught at the track on a FWD for heating the tires correctly...though not to that extent. On a RWD you stand on the brake to lock the front wheels or use a line lock to do the same.
If you like burnouts...I do, and don't mind wasting tires then that is how you do it. It is also how it is done at any organized burnout contest
