Well, the time is coming soon for my poor old Contour to be laid to rest. All the plans went out the window because my budget for modding it went down the drain all for repairs. I spent almost $9000 between April of last year and this month on the car. Every day something else breaks or goes wrong and costs me more money. I rolled over 296 000km yesterday and the car is running like crap, but I don't really care,I'm not spending any more money on it because.....
....yesterday I ordered a black 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS sedan. Unexpected really, because I was really looking to get a Sonoma crew cab,but after recent spikes in gas prices and hearing what pigs the 4.3's are on gas,I figured maybe it would be a wise idea to get something fuel efficient as well as still being a little sporty, but most of all, being practical.
So I loaded the Cobalt up with all the goodies. It comes standard with heated leather seats, power seats, windows, mirrors, air, cruise and all that jazz. I added a power sliding sunroof, upgraded MP3 compatible stereo with 7 speakers and a built in 10" subwoofer. The entire stereo is made by Pioneer too,and in my experiences with them, they make pretty good stuff. It was only a $290 option to upgrade the stereo too! Also decided to go with an automatic this time because I'm just getting too lazy to drive a standard all the time, and half the time in the morning when I drive to work I'm still half asleep and couldn't be bothered to shift gears. It also comes with the 17" 5 spoke rims and all the SS stuff. You also jump up from the 2.2L ecotec with 145hp to the 2.4L ecotec with 171hp,so I don't lose any hp with this compared to the Contour. The sedan doesn't get the supercharger like the coupe can,but I wouldn't get the supercharger anyways, since my insurance is already through the roof. I added every option except for XM satellite radio, smokers pckage and side curtain airbags.
The dealer is doing a search to see if they can find me an SS already built with my specs, otherwise they need to order direct from the factory. I don't expect to take delivery of the car till atleast the start of March. Even though I'd like the car now,I'm going to try and run out the winter in the Contour, see if I can get it to hit 300 000km,and hopefully by then, the snow will have cleared up and I can get into a shiny new car first thing in the spring.
Since it's going to be a lease, minimal mods are planned. Just window tint and a K&N drop in filter, and maybe a set of rims, but I quite like the stock SS rims. Anyways,I'm all excited since it's going to be my first new car. Before this,my newest car was my '98 Mystique and before that I drove an '87 Celica GTS. I think I made a smart choice on the Cobalt.
