I took delivery of my 98 E0 SVT on June 14th of 1997.
This guy is probably NOT full of [censored].
If he bought it in EARLY 1998, that means it was more than halfway through the 98 model year, hence probably why he got it with E1 rims. There could easily have been some customer who wanted to buy the E0 SVT rims for their regular contour and dealer saw a chance to upgrade the rims to E1s to better sell the car maybe.
