You guys are totally overlooking the fuel metering issue. to me it's either a huge vaccuum leak or the MAF is dirty as hell, or toasted. I would check for vacuum leaks (loud hissing around the top of the engine at idle) and clean the MAF (take off the filter housing and spray electrical contact cleaner for a god 10 seconds in the sampling tube to clean the wires).
