That all depends on what width you go with...6 1/2", 7", 7 1/2", or 8". You will have a tough time with 8" though, that's stating to push it especialy if the car is lowered. You realy have to just play with the numbers and compare with other wheels if you have that option. I have 18x7 OZ Superleggra's that have a +42mm offset with 225/40-18 tires Eibach springs that will rub every once and a while on a big dip. They are prtty close...I wouldn't go any more then +42mm on a wheel/tire combination that big. With a smaller 215/40-18 you may get away with a little more offset. I was running 17x7 FSVT wheels (+49mm offset) and 215/45-17's without any rubbing at all ever.

well the wheels i am looking at are 18x7, but they have 45mm offset. i can either get 215/35-R18 or 225/40-R18. my svt is lowered. what combination should i go with or is 45mm offset too large for me?

Scott,
thanks for the info on the range of offsets that will work.

As stated before 215/35-18 will be smaller then stock in diameter and the side walls will be very rubber band like and provide very little protection for your wheels. The 215/40-18 is the propper wheels size but some bump up to the 225/40-18 fro a little more tread and a little more sidewall. I would NOT go with the 215/35-18 though.

The larger the offset (ie. stock 49mm) the more the wheel will be tucked in (pushed towards the strut) giving you more room provided you don't go too far, go too big of an offset and the tires will rub the strut. The smaller the offset the more the wheel will be pushed out towards the fender lip, too small of an offset and the tires will rub the fender lip and require rolling.
225/40-18 on a 7" wheel with a 45mm offset should fit very nice. As I said mine are 225/4-18 on a 7" wheel with a 42mm offset and they are close and rub the fender lip very little only on big dips. I'd imagine that when I install my Koni's it will probably solve my rubbing issue for the most part.
