personally I would buy the SVT focus if it weren't the hatch back, I'd prefer the 4 door. The hatchback looks like something you put on, not get in.

Only passable version is the 4dr. Have to admit the handling is good. Definitely above average. Acceleration is brisk (they are light), but lacking. That can be fixed (see above) Still not my cup of tea...

Like someone else said, it lacks two doors, and it's a Ford! After a year of Contour ownership - and many trips to the dealer's service dept. - I will not be buying another Ford anytime soon!
If it's a sporty 4 cylinder you want, check out the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V... More HP, more TQ, six speed, LSD, 4 doors. And rave reviews from the press!

Personally the Focus kind of grew on me but it is no Contour! I would probably buy one for the following reasons: 6-speed, 17 inch wheels, 170 hp Zetec (I already have a Zetec;very good engine),two tone leather interior (beautiful interior overall), a lot more aftermarket. Just my two cents. Nothing will replace the tour!

I like the Focus' driving dynamics a lot, and for $13-15K the ZX3 is one of the best bargains out there. Yeah, the looks leave something to be desired, but at least with the Aztek, Trailblazer, and Echo around, you can feel confident that your car is not the ugliest car on the road.

Ford handed over keys to Road and Track this past weekend at the Solo II ender in Detroit. This car ran a 61.8 and Integra Type R's were in the 60's. I think the car is a superb bang for the buck in it's segment. Take a ride in one then they come out and you won't be disappointed. TheMark and 2 of my other friends got a ride and were very impressed at how smooth it was. The Honda sport compact segment now has a contender. I have to agree with Rara. Don't knock it till you've tried it.

I think the specs look awesome, but I can`t get over the looks. I agree with bill P. though ; fit and finish is EONS ahead.

Think of a similar suspension set up on a lighter car. The SVT Focus is to have revised spring and dampening rates just as the SVT Contour did. On another note... anyone notice that the SVT Focus doesn't have a name of it's own just as the SVT Contour didn't? i.e. SVT F-150 "Lightning", or SVT Mustang "Cobra"...
