I'd start off with a clay barring and then some Mequiars scratch-X to get the swirls out Most people have to learn the hard way with black, usually its "one and done" for most, but I was hard headed, I had (3) black cars in a row...

-87' Grand National
-89' LeSabre T-type
-93' Park Avenue Ultra

Anyways, after that, I'd apply some Pinnacle "Soeveran" to it as its specifically made for black, red and darker colors (addtional charge for this product). If you want, I can do this for you and it would be considered under "package #2" and cost you $175.00 (clay bar, scratch-X and caranuba wax-Souveran) IMO though, I'd go with a coat of Klasse AIO after the scratch-X, making the process go like this...

-clay bar
-Scratch-X
-AIO
-Souveran

I'd like to add the Klasse AIO because it will not only clean the paint addtionally, but polish it as well, thus giving me an even better surface to apply the Souveran to Keep in mind the Souveran is an addtional $10.00 charge, so your package would be either $175.00 or $205.00. Keep in mind this for the complete detailing package, inside and out, including the engine and cargo area I'd be pleased to do this car because not only do you need it , but the curves on this car are sweet and its just a bad ass lookin' car, something I really look forward to here at "The Compound"

Scratch-X for touching up is fine, but to do the whole car with it by hand is nuts!

Plus there are much better products available:
Poorboy's Super Swirl Removers
Menzerna Final Polish II
Four Star Ultimate Swirl Mark Remover
3M Swirl Remover for Dark Colored Cars
Optimum Polish

On another note, PC is here and I'll be detailing this heavily oxidized and swirled dark green 95 Accord this weekend with some higher end products:

I'll post before and afters in Pics & Vids this weekend (weather permitting).

Good luck on that one Pete

On a side note, I detailed my father-in-laws Dads 97' Lincoln Town car yesterday, its white w/o the faux convertable top, so it was alot of work to say the least (save the PC comments, point is well taken already ) Anyways, I had him run it through the carwash before he came over, seeing that its too damn cold to hand wash it and we got started. I began with the normal clay barring. Mind you, when I clay, I go over the area with more than one swipe, I probably over due it but thats ok, better to be safe than sorry. After I did just the hood my bright yellow clay bar was dark maize I couldn't believe my eyes and it just goes to show you guys how important the clay bar is to the process Anyways, after clayying, I bust out the Klasse AIO and heres the amazing part! By the time I got done doing the hood, front fender and roof, the yellow pad was dirty, yeah, dirty, WTF The color white must have some incredible dirt holding properties I ended up switching the pad over and finishing it up. So now I'm thinking, what next with the Klasse SG, but my fear didn't rear its head, it went on fine w/o any dirt coming out of the paint! I finished with S100 and the car looked great

I can see the PC at the end of the tunnel, but will probably only use it to get out the "tough stuff", but who knows. I don't really see the need to use it to remove wax and BTW, when you use a series of polishes like Griots offers for their PC, do you really need to clay before or after that? The reason I ask is because they (Griots) offer a holder for the PC to put the clay bar, thats NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN with me, no way, no how! The Griots polishing system looks to be pretty thorough, having 3 different polishes for different applications and they cost no more than $12-$15.00 a bottle, I like that and with how little product you need to use with the PC, that too is a bonus. I guess I'll need to invest in some liquid wax when my hard paste runs out if I like the PC that much

Roger,

Not knocking you for going by hand. I've enjoyed it thus far, but HAD to try it given the results I've seen.

White does seem to get dirtier. I've detailed white and for some reason I seem to "pick up" more dirt than other colors.

PC does not change the order you do things. It merely replaces your hand applications for a more efficient and faster application.

I think my plan of attack for the 95 will be:
1. wash
2. clay
3. Menzerna Final Polish II by PC
4. AIO by PC
5. Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection by PC
6. Natty's Blue by PC

I'll be sure to post the results.

Do you seem to get alot of dust and/or "mess" when you using your PC? If so, I guess it just comes with the territory and I will not let it keep me from getting one. I'm thinking now to just wait on getting one because I have (3) cans of caranuba, but I do have the Klasse "twins", so I would get some use out of it right away, we'll see

I wish I had taken a pic of that whale, err, white Lincoln Town car, oh well. I've got a brand new 06' Escape Limited to do tomorrow and all I gotta do is take it to the touch-free carwash, bring it home and apply a coat of SG to outside and treat the seats with some Griots leather conditioner and I'm all done, so far this has been a pretty good week

Haven't used it yet, and it's killing me.

It depends what product you are using. There should be little difference in dust/mess levels between hand and PC. I'll give more feedback this weekend when I try both ways with the same product.

From what you've said in the past hand applications seem to work just fine for you since you are detailing relatively new / well-cared for vehicles. So a PC may not be a "worthwhile" investment.

I'll post pics/review/feedback/thoughts this weekend and be sure to shoot you a PM to the post so you don't miss it.

very nice... i think i'm going to get the Klasse twins and a good carnauba...

2 questions...

What do you think of cleaner waxes? such as mothers or meguiars? reason being i just recently started putting more effort into detailing and am wanting to step up to higher quality products. but i have 3 bottles of cleaner wax still. so i figured i'd use it from time to time for a "quick" wax...

other question... what do you use to detail tires? tire spray? what kind?

thanks!

AIO is a cleaner, so no need for another.

I've been using Turtle Wax Tirewax with a dedicated foam applicator.

Your choices really depend on a number of factors:
- how often you wash
- how often you detail
- how much you want to spend
- condition of paint
- color of paint
- desired end result
I think ^^ plays a huge role. Do you want the most longevity? Do you want the most depth?

For T-Red, I would recommend:
1. thorough wash
2. thorough clay
3. Menzerna Final Polish II (to remove swirls/scratches)
One of the most recommended
4. AIO (to clean, polish, seal)
Good bridge to next step
5. Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection (sealant)
6. Natty's Blue ("topper")

I'll be using this combo this weekend on the above 95 green Accord.

If you want fewer steps:
1. thorough wash
2. thorough clay
3. AIO
4. Klasse SG
5. S100/P21S

Use a good detailing spray. The difference between even Meguiar's QD and Zaino's QD is dramatic. I've tried about 10 different kinds and alwasy go back to Zaino Z-6.

see, my problem is that the car is always parked outside. so i want something that will stay looking good the longest. i occasionally will want to do a really good polish & wax for car shows and such but mainly i want my car to look good under the conditions that i have to park it.

i wash it every week (in the summer, when i can in the winter) so it stays mostly clean.

oh, and i knew not to use cleaner wax with the AIO, i was more askign what was thought about them in general

Anyone know the best wax to use with an orbital polisher on a T-red? Currently all i do for detailing is wash car, put in garage, go over with clay bar and then i wax with NXT.

What should i be doing?
