yeah... they definitely don't deserve the praise.

I'm not referring to them being a great team or not. I'm talking about everyone calling them the greatest team ever. That obviously wasn't deserved, because they weren't even the greatest team this year.

When referenced that way, it was always in the context of their accomplishments over the last few years, not this year in particular. Of course, everyone thought this team would beat Texas, too. Even without winning, they deserve to be talked about as one of the greatest college football teams of all-time. With their accomplishments, they cannot be left out. In fact, I don't believe I heard a single analyst say that they were even as good as they were last year. Everyone said that their defense was weaker, but their offense would still win it for them.

They should have said it last year then (and probably did). Get over it? You started this discussion by complaining about the hating; I'm just explaining to you why there's hating.

Hey, the best teams need a few thugs. If USC had some prominent ones they'd receive more consideration as the best team ever.

Not sure how you call them a better team than 95 Nebraska, but I'll let the statistics and general consensus speak for my opinion.

Based on your other comments, general consensus was that USC was the greatest team ever. How many games in a row did that Nebraska team win en route to that championship? Or are they the greatest ever because they rushed the ball better?

Must be why that month-long poll on ESPN putting them up against historical best teams used the 03-05 Trojans instead of just the 05 team. Oh wait, no they didn't, they used the 05 team.

Are we analyzing who the greatest team is, or who had the longest winning streak? They won all their games that season by wide margins. They didn't rely on last-second plays against overrated Notre Dame teams to win games. How many games in a row did 97 Michigan (who is your #1 team of all time) win in 97?

ESPN using the 05 team was dumb on their part, not only because they hadn't played all their games yet, but also because last years USC team was a lot better than this years (same offense, better D). USC had won 34 games in a row, that is pretty damn impressive no matter how much you don't like them. They earned the hype.

Why should they have won?

Where you watching a diff game than i was????

TEXAS came back and got the job done F'in Awesome!!!!

Can you say "Knee was Down" therefore the play will be reviewed. Upon further reviews, the knee was down and the ball will be placed on the 8 yard line. Texas kicks a FG and USC Wins.

At least thats how it should hav been.

knee was down at 11. Next play VY runs the ball and all of the USC defenders get out of the way and let him score just like every other time he ran the ball. Complaining about officiating is useless, if you didn't play well enough to overcome a couple bad calls you didn't deserve to win. The game came down to USC not executing on 4th and 2, not a bad call.

Davo, obviously you didn't understand what I wrote. Try again, and take your time.

My point was that they were calling this the greatest team of all time based on years worth of winning, NOT just this season. The ESPN poll wrong in using this years team as the defense was widely acknowledged to be worse than last years. For a single season, you can't argue this years USC team is the best ever after losing, you are right. But in the context of their accomplishments over the last 3 or even 4 years, there is no way they cannot be considered one of the greatest college football teams of all time. And being a UofM fan, I hate USC more than just about any other team outside of OSU and ND. I just recognize that this basic corp of players has accomplished more than any group I have seen.

BTW, I said UofM was my previous favorite championship team and with their defense that year I believe they would have been competitive with the 1995 Nebraska team. Hard to argue against what "general consensus" named one of the best defenses in NCAA history. How does that saying go? Something about "Defense wins championships".

If Texas wins it again next year, they will very likely be talked about being the greatest team ever the following year. If USC hadnt won it last year, and rolled through the schedule this year, you don't honestly thing that people would be calling them the greatest team ever, do you?

True, but if they get that call right, they likely aren't in the game. USC didn't do what they had to do, simple as that. But, the officiating put them in a position where Texas was able to come back.
