I'm needing to replace my Oxygen sensor (O2S) for the upstream bank number 1. and i've looked at th how to, and also went to TeamFordParts.com to get ht sensor, but there are 3 options on the sensor and i want to make sure that i'm ordering correct one. the choices are as follows: Square connector, (TFP's guess) (Green Connector, Round Grey connector
this is on a 99 2.5L atx
that's all -mark

If it's the upstream then you can look at it in your car. Look for the pre cat by the radiator. The sensor connector will be on the passenger side to the right of the washer fluid jug. You'll see the wire harness holder between the timing cover and the radiator.

I thought Bank 1 was the firewall side.
FWIW, mine required square ends but YMMV. The How-to on replacing the firewall side upstream O2 is very helpful; I hope you have skinny hands.

Yes bank 1 is between the rear of the engine and the firewall. It's a stupidly annoying job, but you should be able to do it within an hour or two. May as well replace both since bank 2 isn't that hard to do (well compared to bank 1 anyways)

Which is exactly what I did; if one throws a code at 110k miles the other can't be far behind. Changing bank 2 is cake, especially if you're already changing the oil and filter. Make sure you order the sensor online or have some other discounted source. Local Ford dealers wanted $111 and $156 (yes! ) for EACH Motorcraft sensor.

Ford dealers can go to hell! I got Bosch sensors from Autozone for $60 each.

Yes bank 1 is the firewall side, but the question was which O2 sensor do I buy, square or round connector?
As you can't see the bank 1 O2 connector I thought it might be easier to look at the bank 2 sensor to see if it was square or round.

Connector for upstream sensors has square shroud, and for downstream circular.
There is a link to Automedic supply who sells O2 sensors, where you can find the connector shape drawings, in the Duratec maintenance FAQ. I bought all 4 sensors there by the way. Good luck.

ok i got the sensor replaced, and got th cells cleared. I had a code P1131 which is hwy i replaced the sensor in th first place, but every now and then the car will almost buck. like it's misfiring (but it isn't)and it will accelerate sluggishly. The CEL will flash, but not stay on. this does not happen everytime. Has anyone else had this problem? could it be the O2 in back 2 that is causing this?

Scan for CELs again and post. Could be spark plugs or wires or coilpack or fuel injectors or fuel pump or fuel filter or ..... you get the picture.
