You jumper across it and the light goes out. That is, the switch is CLOSED when the coolant is at the proper level. Or is supposed to be, anyway.

Ford makes a jumper that's perfect for this, used as the SPOUT jumper in older cars with distributors as well as the octane adjust jumper in 95 Contours/Mystiques.

Since I've ripped the computer harness out of my brother's 1995 Contour and replaced it with a new one due to the cracking insulation, and it has two of those jumpers on it, I can look and get the engineering number for this jumper off of it and post it here later on.
Bill Jenkins ought to be able to cross it to a part number.

I doubt replacing the sensor will fix it; I think the problem is often the float inside the tank.
