Drove a Mazda3s yesterday. Really nice little car. That is most loaded compact I have even been in. I think it was 20k. They need to come down about $1500. Lots of deals on the '05 5 doors. The g/f didn't like those though. Said they looked like a wagon.
Could get a M6s with the 5 speed for about 20k.
It looks like we're trying to decide between the 6 and the 3. The 3 is so nimple and peppy with the 2.3 and auto. She doesn't want a stick. Blah. They had a demo M6i for 18k which I thought was a great deal. Only 5k on it. Was a hatch so lots of cargo room with the seats down. 2006 Mazda6 in black cherry is my pick.
26k loaded is a bit much though.
