We got my wife a tC after she was looking at the Mazda 3. It kicks all other similar sized car asses. I'm really impressed with the factory handling and the pep from the motor. One thing I noticed is that this carhas super responsive throttle response. For the money you cannot beat what you get. Too bad my wife isisted on the Auto, but still, it's quick and would show most Contours it's heels. A MTX, I'm sure would give an SVT a run for it's money.

Nice addition to the family Tony, I've always liked the looks of the tC model Scions. I believe Scion will strap on an SC kit and still honor the warranty if you ever get the mod bug. Happy motoring!

Strange you should say that I looked at them when I was looking at cars but I was not impressed with the factory handling. It felt to boatish and understeery for me.

It's only a hair under the SVT Contour's torque (just checked), and while it's short 30 horses 170 is still respectable. Then again, I suppose a few years ago it would have been considered an absolute rocket for the money, but performance across all makes has improved tremendously of late.

What else can you buy NEW for $18K that has

~160HP and TQ
4 wheel disc / ABS
Moon Roof
Side Air Bags
17" Wheels w 215/45R17 tires
A/C
Remote Entry, Power Locks, Windows, Cruise
Factory 160w 6 speaker sound with CD/MP3/WMA player and a jack for the iPod.

Maybe the Mazda 3s, perhaps a Nissan Sentra SE-R (didn't look at that one) Maybe some Kia's and Hyundais (no thanks)

Maybe a Ford Focus with the 2.3, but I've had enough of poor resale values and plan to put 150K on this ride in the next 4-5 years.

I tried to find a Ford Fusion with 4 cylinder 5 speed, but no such car was out there to be found. Lots of V6/ATX models, and even the 4 started over the 18K before moonroof and SAB package.

Yes, it has some serious understeer and body lean. Seems the 5 speed cars have an 18mm rear sway bar and the automatics have a 22mm rear sway bar.

Bottom line, it's a great looking appliance car, and that works for me

I can guarantee your TC was a better buy than any current decontented Focus sold in North America. Hooray for for and axing thier SVT Focus...

Why are you here when you could be out playing with your new toy?

My wifes ATX tC has almost NO body lean - hence why I was impressed. Remember I drive a fully modded SVT, so impressing me with a off-the-lot car takes a LOT!

Makes sense if the ATX comes with a 22mm bar. Tony, I would think that you could swap the 22mm bar from the ATX into your MTX and that's a great improvement right there.

Also I feel like the shock/springs are pretty firm - not that they couldn't be improved on, but I'll tell you this it handles better than my SVT did new.
