IM looking at a 2002 ZX2 for sale. 52K miles, MTX, are there any common problems I should look at? Any weak points? From what I Have heard and read they are very reliable and durable cars.

my little bor in law had one and really liked it. We had to replaced the alt at about 80k, but that was it. Don't use Bosch plat spark plugs in them (in fact in any car if you ask me). It was a good little car.

I think their fine. I don't have one. My aunt has an 02 w/ 29K. she loves it. A schoolmate has an 00 w/ 65K. He hasn't had any problems. And he drives kinda crazy, too I believe they have the 16v zetec just as a contour does.

yep same as the contour...just have to change the timing belt. I realize if it breaks technically it is not an interference engine, but I wouldn't take the chance.

Were power locks and windows an available option? I haven't seen a ZX2 with them yet .. that's the one thing that stopped me considering them as an alternative vehicle.

It is, but was a fairly rare thing to find.

Yep, power windows and locks were available. It was on the version they called their "HOT" model. The one I looked at in the showroom had every option made, and listed for over $17,000.

ZX2's are Escort-based, and should be one of the most reliable Ford cars there is. Its too bad they quit making them, as there is a market for inexpensive sporty two doors. I thought the ZX2 was a lot sportier than the Focus ZX3.
