Why are you making this more complicated than it needs to be?
To the original poster: is the accessory outlet active only when the key is in the ignition? Usually you can tap into that for a steady 12v remote source that is active when the car is on.
edit: yeah pretty much what some people said, accessory is the power wires to your cigarette lighter outlet. Easy to get to, also located close to the HU.
