What do I do about the remote wire when installing an amplifier in a car with a factory radio? It's a 2000 Ford Ranger, and I'm willing to bet that it doesn't have a remote wire coming off of the HU. Most people would say to hook the wire to the ignition wire, but unfortunately I don't know which wire that is either. Let me know people, I know there are geniuses on this board

don't really have a whole lotta help here, but just my $0.02, installing an amplifier for speakers w/ a stock headunit isn't worth the time, effort, or money.

The only reason I'm doing this is because I'm taking the Ford Ranger back down to Cincinnati for school instead of the Contour, and I don't want to bother the HU.

isnt the remote wire the exact same thing as the power antenna wire?
so if you were going to the factory HU, hook the amp remote to the power antenna lead.

Any wire that gets "hot" only with the key on will work for the remote turn on. As Steeda mentioned the ACC wire on the HU would be fine

I did that on a friend's system once, and for some reason the amp stayed on and drained the battery when the car was off. both wires were blue, I just spliced the wrong one...put it on the antennae and problem solved.

two options... Hook it up to your running lights or tail lights. works good for mounting it in a trunk, but since your in a pick up, id just run a hot wire the the power wire and hook it up to a toggle switch. If you want you can even get 'cool blue ones'...Its nice so can shut off the sub/amp if you wanna just hear the door speakers..
