Disappointing sales marked Ford's attempt to sell Mondeo-based cars, called the Contour and Mystique, in the United States. They were dropped in 2000.
Scheele said the Contour and Mystique failed because the Taurus' price had been reduced to compete against the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The Contour and Mystique in turn were priced below the Taurus, which eroded profits on the high-content cars.

Was it of lost profits, or was it something else?
Is my car for sale? PM me if you're in South FL.

Focus is primarily what killed our car. Foucs inteiror wise is larger than a Contour. So where does a Contour which has reached it's end of life '95-'00 = 6 model years go? Do they retool the factory and find parts suppliers stateside for the next gen Mondeo/Contour or just kill the car in hopes the Foucs fills the niche?

Kind of, it's a little bigger, as the 500 is bigger than the Taurus. They still make the Taurus for rentals primarily. The Fusion is "in spirit" like the Contour. Can't say it's better till I drive one .

Yes, there is a resemblance in the interior, from what I remember about the current Mondeo.

I would also like to see a new Contour line. That would be great. I think ALL the cars Ford, Lincoln, Mercury make are really gross and I could never see myself driving one(besides Mustangs and the Lincoln LS). I think Ford had a good thing going with the Contour. It is sad to see that it ended this way.

I agree. I'm not at all a Ford guy, I don't like the new Mustangs and I didn't expect to buy a domestic vehicle at all until I found out about the CSVT, which impressed me enough to make me want a Ford.

Same here, I have never been a ford fan. I think the csvt is the first and last one I will own. Not that ford is bad but it's just not my fist choice. A used csvt with decent miles is a lot of car for the money, at the time I bought mine it was the cheapest sport sedan with a manual trans that I could find, and really my only complaint was the 16" wheels, but that was solved with focus wheels. For daily driving the car is never disappointing, there are cars that are worth twice as much that don't feel nearly as solid as the csvt.
