I had a rear brake caliper stick on my first car, a 1984 Fiero. I knew it was hanging but by time I arrived home (about a 10 minute drive at 35mph it was glowing, there werer green flames coming from behind the caliper. I grabbed a garden hose and a thick plate of scrap steel from the barn and went back out to the car. When I hit the rotor with the water, the rotor shattered. I figured since the rotor and caliper where shot from the heat, why not hit them with the water and save the rest of the car.

Sure enough a rotor, caliper, pads, a wheel bearing, and a new parking brake cable later I was back on the road.
