I forgot to ask, are you looking for surround sound? If not, older silver faced receivers from the late 70s and early 80s make great investments in terms of quality and you won't lose a dime on them like buying today's electronics. My Toshiba SA-775, blows away my TOTL HK from a few years back in terms of build quality, power, and especially in AM/FM tuner performance. Although, it would never fit the bill for a "small" receiver at 22" wide and nearly 8" tall. It's not just receivers from that vintage either, there are some quality 2 channel alternatives floating around from Carver, Rotel, NAD, and a few others that won't break the bank on the used market. They are hard to find, the a/d/s/ Atalier series or the C2 series of components can be found cheaply and they combine good performance and sleek looks.
