Don't know anyone who sells ferritic tips. It would defeat the purpose , as they will exhibit surface rust. Most tips are either 304SS, or chromed mild steel (I don't like the chromed steel, cause sometimes (say all the time) the chrome and nickeled layer is THIN)

Just make sure you buy 304SS if you plan on keeping the exhaust more than 2 years. Oh, and if you see rust on 304, its usually surface iron dust (say, from brake discs) and it will clean up nice with a little polish. Just make sure if you get them welded in, the guy covers them nice to avoid splatter. Most shops will weld with a general purpose mig wire, which will cause rust spots when it splatters on the 304. Don't ask how I know

Just reread the first post. They probably destroyed the passive film with the etching process. Is the surface in the Borla letters rougher than the overal tip? If it is, the crevices are trapping contaminants and iron dust, adding some red color where you do not want it...

Best way to keep the rust from coming back would be to polish the letters out to a smooth surface, if they are just etched and not engraved. How attached are you to the Borla name? wink
