It helps raise the sound stage, but a good set of kick panels will also take care of that. The music should feel like it is coming from in front of you like at a concert.

As mentioned it is not a cut/dry question and has a lot to do with the car's interior and things more complex then most of us want to get into.

Getting Equal distance between Left and Right speakers in a car is what you are trying to achieve, by moving the Left tweeter up closer then the left mid certainly create some issues. If the speakers are on axis think about the distance from the left A pillar to your ear and then to where ever your mid would be placed, certainly not equal. And the right will certainly be longer. Units with Time Alignment can offset these flaws, but are usually quite expensive. Using seperate amps for L or R can compensate for this or adjust the balance slightly right to get a more centered "feel"

I am all for a well done kick panel or door arangement (or center channel)
