That's all? They need to make the fine proportional to the amount of financial damage that is done to the city per day, say 10%.

As bad as this one is, it's nothing compared to what I had to put up with when living in France. Within 3 months of living there, I was witness to a national airline strike, bus transit strike, train transit strike, utilities strike and postal service strike. The killer one was the illegal immigrants (Algerians, IIRC) that were given the right to strike/protest their deportation and held up car and bus traffic in the middle of downtown Clermont-Ferrand for 2 days...

Be thankful our Constitution doesn't have "la greve" (the strike) written into it like the idiots that penned France's constitution.

I had a whole family of transit drivers in here today. One guy from Staten island, another who works out of gleason depot in brooklyn. They said for every day they're out, they're getting fined 2.

It's bull if you think about it. EVERY other city dept. is getting the raise they asked for...except transit drivers. These are the people who run NYC. Meanwhile, the city had a giant transit surplus this year, and instead of putting it towards the drivers, they are giving people a free ride on their metro card. NYC is run by monkeys. Stupid Monkeys.

TYhe strike won't last long though...people are gonna start getting pissed tomorrow.

They have a tendency to get greedy and get in the way of people's lives. The strikers are suffering because not only are their union being find one mil a day, but they're not getting paid for time striking. The citizens are not able to go to work normally.

Sure, they deserve a pay raise. Damn skippy they deserve one! BUT don't hold the citizens of NY hostage to their wants and needs.

I agree they deserve a pay raise, and they're being offered a decent one. A raise that is considerably better than most private sector folks are getting, and better benefits too (while it sounded bad, they plan will actually keep the DB pension alive with a floor benefit combo plan).

Looking for 8% a year for three years amounts to a 26% increase in pay over that time.

Year 1 + Year 2 + Year 3

x*1.08 + (x*1.08)*1.08 + ((x*1.08)*1.08)*1.08 = more than 24% total, at least

(don't have time to figure out the math..)
