I've been studying my copy of the MECP study guide(second edition), and my mobile product specialty guide that I got from CEA's website for a few months now. On a scale(1-10) I would give myself a 7.16 in eelectrical knowlegde and about an 8.67 in product knowlegde.

I am a strong beliver in hands on training versus the paper way(reading), but there are allways things that can be overlooked if you choose to study just one way and not the other. So, since I personally don't know any installers down in SOCAL I would like to pick the brains of a few of you guys on here that have been doing this for a while.

Seriously, please don't respond if your a driveway installer and are not certified , you will on only do more harm than help if you havn't takin the test before. If your in the same boat as me, and are just about ready to take your exam also, than feel free to join in.

What kind of harm are you expecting to get out of people wihtout MECPs?

No harm, I just don't want to be to confussed going into take the test that's all, but anyone with experience that can help is more than welcome to put there two cents in.

Say for example you run a amp bridged. When you calculate the voltage output of the amp what formula would you use? Normal voltage calulation per ch on an amp with 4oms you would do rmsâË?â?¢2 to get a trms than use E=âË?Å¡PâË?â?¢R to find out its voltage.

I could take the Master MECP test if i wanted to.

98% on basic
94% on First class

Honestly the test is highly overrated. I have worked with people who have been and haven't been Cert'd. And most of the MECP guys didn't know a thing.

I would suggest going to a School like installer int, or Mobile dynamics. But if you have questions ask away, Ill try to answer stuff from 7 years ago

I have both second edition books, and one has a 20+pg chapter on cell phones. I don't have the ability to go to an installers school right now because of work(military), so the test is the best I can do right now, but I am looking for some locally.

What type of questions do you remember if any being asked? I have a pretty sound knowledge of ohms law and how it applies. I mentioned one of my questions up above that I had and wasn't sure of.

Are you trying to find out the amp's speaker output voltage and convert to Watts?

Trying to find the output voltage, I just wanted to know what the formula is for that. Also, for example if you had 42.68vac supplied output voltage from an amp and say your speakers in parellel reqiured 38.74 vac. What happens with that extra voltage when it reaches the speakers.

You find that with a volt meter - See this test is easy, next.

I "think" your looking for this:
Take the voltage, square it and divide by impedance. That would result in Peak Power in watts. You actually would want a oscilloscope on hand to know if it is clean power too

Maybe I am missing something, or am not understanding what people are asking recently but speakers do what the amps say to do. If you have 42.68V, the speakers are getting it whether they want it or not. UNLESS you have a passive crossover or such that has an overload protection circuit such as a light bulb.
