I haven't been using the Contour as much as I should in the past little while.I have been running it around at least once a week, just to let the mechanicals and engine know that they are not forgotten and I still care.
Today I went to start it up and I got the no start lo battery sequence..tach needle going up and down , no starter engagement and the weirdest part that I had never seen before was the wipers started up on their own.I trickled charged the battery for a little while and it started ..not with the regular quick start, but, more like an old guy (like me ) getting up in the morning. The engine purred along after that and everthing appears normal.
I'll see what happens tomorrow .
I believe the battery will have to be replaced, although i think it did have lots of indicated charge since the headlights were nice and bright without the engine going.
Has anyone had the wipers come on in a simliar situation ?

Yes, it happens a lot, if the battery voltage drops too much. It did when I was looking at a Mystique I bought, and my old Dodge Lancer did that too. Hook it up to a battery charger till it says full charge, then start/run 20 minutes or so, so it can recharge. Check voltage, should be 14 volts or so, engine running. My battery got weak in cold weather and I needed a new one Motorcraft BXT40R.

If I let my car sit for a week or two without driving it, I always throw a battery charger on it for a few minutes until it says that the battery is charged up full. Maybe it isn't necessary but I do it anyway just in case.

I have had that problem too. If I let my tour sit for awhile(2 weeks) during COLD weather I need to charge the battery.

And the clock, engine computer and audio gear. Cold weather cuts the battery capacity a lot, especially if it's not new.

The car started ok this am . Outside temp minus 11C. The battery was most likely just below the threshold where not enough juice was available to start. The short trickle charge I had applied was enough to get it going. Back and forth to work today was about 60kms in total and about 50 minutes of driving time. Voltage meter showed a little over 14 at idle and 12+ with the engine off.
I won't be surprised if it runs down again.

Take care everyone and have a Merry Christmas and/or a Happy Holiday season

Your electrical system is fine. Happy Holidays to you, too!
