Does anyone know if the chrome that is on the bumper can be replaced or does the whole bumper have to be replaced?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure it is detachable and can be painted. I'm getting ready to do this myself I think.

On the 95 Contours they cannot be painted, so my body shop tells me(you can do anything with enough time and money). But I cannot tell you if a insert from the 96-97 bumpers can come out, if they can the insert can be replaced. Also, while trying to find a new bumper, Ford does not make the chrome strip anymore.

someone hit a while back, and i had to have my rear bumper replaced. the body shop spent two days trying to find that chrome bumper strip. i finally told them not to worry about it.
i would like to know how to remove the front one if possible, so it would match the back.
(i suppose i could run it into a tree, and get the front bumper replaced.)

Is the 95 mystique supposed to have chrome? My friend's grandma's car doesn't have chrome, so it made me ask if it waz really a 95 as he said.

It is a separate piece. The people who worked on my car after an accident 3yrs ago were able to track down a few strips (see they put the beat up strip back on and I started complaining as of late that it looks bad :p ). Harrup, are you looking to replace the strip or get rid of it entirely?

It comes out. You can paint it. Mine's off the car, I had it painted a while ago but it didn't look too good with those chrome paint. The double-sided tape I got wasn't that good neither, they sort of fell off so I ripped the whole thing off the car.

Thanks I was going to replace it if I could find the chrome. Guess no one knows where to get the strip, right? I would think the paint underneath it on a car this old would be different color than the rest of the car. What has been the experience of those of you that took it off.
