Just an update for anyone that cares. After having tried most all of the tranny fluids abailable (stock, cocktail, MTL, ATF+3 to name a few) in an attempt to eliminate the poor cold weather shifting I was experiencing, I can now confidently say that Royal Purple Syncromax works amazing for me. I have been running this fluid since the whole debalce over MTL began. I stated earlier that I was very impressed how well the tranny shifted when the temp started to drop into the 40's. Now with the temp regularly in the teens and 20's I would like to reitterate how impressed I am. Shifting is still very smooth right from the get go on those cold morning starts and only gets better as the fluid warms up. Two thumbs up from me .

I would love too make the switch too RP, but its a little bit too expensive for me right now. As for my cold shifting woes, With the Mercon, I actually can make fairly decent shifts right from a cold start... Id say I have too run through all of the gears twice before its close to normal driving.

We've been as cold as -8 DegF here in VT and my car shifts fine w/ RP, right from start-up! Very pleased w/ this product so far.

I honestly have not noticed a huge difference between my 75k mile, 10 year-old original factory fill and my new RP.
Although, when my car sat outside at the airport during a very cold week recently (with ATF), I could hardly move the shifter when I climbed in. I haven't been able to duplicate those conditions with RP in the box.
Otherwise, it's a little slipperier going from gear to gear, but still notchy. I hope this isn't a bad omen. Maybe I just expected too much.

Hmmm. 10 year old factory fill and you expect any change from just fluid replacement. Perhaps if you had changed it every few years and not accelerated the wear of the MTX parts by running old fluid in it. I can tell by that one post that you are just a commuter.

Ouch.
Well, sorry. I made a mistake, and I know it, and I've explained that in other posts. (Just following the factory maintenance schedule, again. Stoopid! Stoopid! Stoopid!)
FWIW, I sent a sample of my dirty fluid to Blackstone, just to get an idea of how bad it was. I'll post results as soon as I get them.
Also, FWIW, tranny didn't feel that bad before the switch, either.

Hahahah! Thats good!
Anyway, good to hear that this fluid is working out for people.
Also, the Torco RTF has been surprisingly good in cold weather! As a racing fluid it seems like it is going to protect the internal stuff under heavy abuse as well.

Just put the RP in today. The MTL came out looking very clean, but I was never satisfied with its cold-weather performance. Will report when it's had a couple of days to work in.

That's been my experience as well. I put in MTL in Sep. '04. Initially, I was impressed with the shifter feel, but when it got cold, it was no better than the factory fill. I put in RP this Thanksgiving. We recently had some mornings in single-digit temps and shifting was still pretty smooth.
