And the point is, it breaks the law. It shouldn't be done. And people that really feel wronged by it need to not be on an internet car forum whining about it, rather they should be contacting politicians, etc.

That is another thing that pisses me off about this. This adminstration has repeatedly demonstated that they believe "if you are not with us, you are against us" and they fail to recognize that dissent is the American way. There is no single thing as intregal to being American than the ability to express dissent with the chosen course of the government.

I look at those that protest government as better than the average American in many respects, and I include myself in that. THEY are the ones that stand up and show by protest that not everyone in this nation is willing to lie down and accept the mistakes that GWB his cronies have made.

Beowulf, you need to get laid or something man. why do you have a pole up your but because someone has an opinion? k, so he doesn't give two craps is the gov't knows what he's eating for lunch. you're just an opinionated jerk, and I swear to God if your mom and dad died due to terrorism (or the equivalent), you'd be mad as hell, and if you had known that the CIA wanted to be spying on that sleeper cell but weren't, you'd probably kill yourself.

good day

I dont think thats even possible unless your like isreal where everyone has to serve for a set time. and for the defense budget? i dont think we generate 400 billion in tax revenue period.

Its like comparing a mac truck to a beetle, you just cant do it. The countries populations are just too extreme for a straight comparison

I wasn't exactly making a straight comparison. I was using the numbers to show that 60k odd soldiers and $11 billion isn't enought to fight a war. The US would be the major defender of Canada, plain and simple. Canada doesn't have the man power or money to completely defend itself.

ok that may be true but the fact remains we dont go and get involved in things like the american govt does. We try more diplomatic avenues. I would like to see our military stronger and its a big issue on the coming election. But that doesnt mean i want canada going off and starting conflicts

I do need to get laid, but that is not the issue here.

He can have an opinion. And I can tell him he is full of crap.

That is what we have the freedom to do. And if you take another right away that supports this fragile house of cards, dissent and the voicing of opinions will be something that will disappear from public venues.

ALL of our rights are important. The erosion of rights especially under the last two adminstrations is very worrying to those of us that take them very seriously.

I am sorry that none of you (with few exceptions) can seem to get your heads out of the sand long enough to see that.

If my parents died froma terrorist attack, I would want to see that the people responsible were caught and tried for their crimes.

BUT WITHIN THE LAW.

A conviction that results from an investigation that violated anyone's rights is no victory at all. If the judge let them off, I would not hold the judge responsible, but the morons that broke the law trying to find the guilty parties.

i do believe what hes saying if someone was found out by the illegal spying and it went to trial i think a mistrial would occur and the defendant would walk. NO idea if the presidents order makes the searches and spying legal in court.

very impressive stuff Beowulf. i havent found anything disagreeable out of what you said. lol about the comments about Cuba. the citizens of China have their internet filtered by the government for their own protection. not to mention their emails. but hey, if it stops some anti-government threats, why not?

waiting for this to comment to lead into all out war. the far right must not be home from church yet.

as for Kremit's comment about letting Californians do all the worrying about it.. iirc, the Michigan militia is based out of a red state and is very suspicious of the federal goverments activities. and that's only one example. some of you are "gun-nuts", do you think the NRA supports the federal goverment going through their emails?? or being able to covertly monitor their activities/finances/records?? im not a member but i would venture to guess that the answer is "hell no!". not that im saying the NRA is against the Patriot Act but i dont think they want any unauthorized monitoring of their business from anyone.

nothing wrong with cooperating with the government but there is something wrong when the governement decides to do as it pleases, unchecked.

Which is the other part of the problem. Did the government illegally monitor Americans to protect America or the current government structure?

If I act against the government to preserve freedom, does that make a traitor or a patriot?

Politics ought to be the part-time profession of every citizen who would protect the rights and privileges of free people and who would preserve what is good and fruitful in our national heritage.
