Canada military money : $11 billion America: $400 billion
Who is the largest and closest NATO member to Canada? That's right, it's the USA. So in the event that Canada had somebody that chose to really go all out on them, without going for the US first (yeah right  ), then the USA would be the ones going to do a lot, if not most, of the fighting for Canada.

Yes, canada can protect itself somewhat, but no way could they win a real war without outside help.
And noone has been put in jail because of a single stupid email.
I don't necessarily agree with every practice of our government, but at this time, I don't really care how they go about protecting us, as long as they do protect us. I have nothing to fear from being spied on, so I'll let the terrorists, cry babys, and californians worry about it.

Eh, I was picking the ones directly related to the topic at hand. Which would be investigating crimes and punishing the guilty.
And #9 is not a right. One of the purposes of government is to proect the national interests of the country. Within the bounds of law. But a right? No.
Law in this country should never allow unauthorized surviellance and eavesdropping.

dude you realize canada's population is like a tenth of the americas right? if we were to have 1.5 million troops that would mean every 1 in 10 citizens or so would be serving. I dont think thats even possible unless your like isreal where everyone has to serve for a set time. and for the defense budget? i dont think we generate 400 billion in tax revenue period.
Its like comparing a mac truck to a beetle, you just cant do it. The countries populations are just too extreme for a straight comparison

I just have zero respect for people that don't realize that the freedoms we have are threatened enough without us rolling over and playing dead for anyone that takes our freedoms in the name of keeping us safe.

True.
I believe the people being spied on were anti-war protesters and whatnot. I think the reason they may have been spied on is because that it could be said that some could be swayed to supporting terrorists. This isn't valid for a court order.
And the point is, it breaks the law. It shouldn't be done. And people that really feel wronged by it need to not be on an internet car forum whining about it, rather they should be contacting politicians,etc.

I wasn't exactly making a straight comparison. I was using the numbers to show that 60k odd soldiers and $11 billion isn't enought to fight a war. The US would be the major defender of Canada, plain and simple. Canada doesn't have the man power or money to completely defend itself.
