This O2 is on the front exhaust manifold facing the radiator. Unplug, unscrew, install new one.
Thanks, that sounds doable. Are there any special tools necessary? I would access it from under the car, right? (Maybe a stupid question...) I'm just trying to understand where it is, I think I've seen it before.
Thanks again !

There are two oxygens sensors on each bank. On the front bank, you want the one in the exhaust manifold that is upstream of the cat that is built into the exhaust manifold.
You can probably change it with a 7/8" or 22mm wrench, but they also sell oxygen sensor tools at that web site I posted. Of the three that they sell, the one I prefer is the shortest one. If there is enough room, the longest one may work slightly better.

Just to verify (as I might attempt this today) is this what you are talking about?
THANKS !

Thanks. I replaced the plugs (with Autolite double plats) and wires (Ford Racing 9mm) this year. As far as I could tell (or remember), I replaced the originals.
I'll check for loose wires, etc. then have the code cleared. If it recurs, I'll pull the plug and check it and the wire out.
Thanks for the suggestions. I just wasn't sure where to start.
I ran by another Auto Zone today, to have them reset the code. He came up with same code, and a new one. P0174- list says :
P0174 System Too Lean - Bank No. 2.
I don't know what that means. Anyone? the A. Zone guy said something about an O2 sensor after the cat. Is that something I can change myself? Are there directions anywhere?
Are these 2 codes related? Can I reset the codes myself? (The Gomer at A. Zone wouldn't reset them ... said something about the repair having to be made before...) If so, how?
Thanks for your help.
So weird. I replaced the plug in #4. Old one looked fine, some blackness around the tip.
I pulled the O2 (7/8" worked perfectly) and had screwed the new Bosch one in, when I realized the plug on the end was the wrong shape. So I put the old sensor back in, reconnected the battery and took the 15 minute drive to AZ. No CEL.
I asked them to pull the codes (to see if they were in fact gone) but their OBD2 was missing. I exchanged the O2 for the correct one. But then I got thinking that I didn't really have $75 to spend, if I didn't need to. So I drove another 15 minutes to a different AZ, and asked them to pull the codes. They asked if the CEL was on, I said it was but it is off now. I wanted to make sure I fixed the problems. They said there would be nothing to read if the CEL is not on.
So, I returned the O2 and drove back home. I stopped at the bank and for lunch on the way. So now I have driven maybe 35 miles and at least on/off cycles since I reconnected the battery.
Am I good to go? What are other possible causes for a P0174? Could be intermittent?

If you're talking about a lean code, no. That is not the one. The upper, or upstream O2 is the one you need to change when you get fuel mix codes.
The one in the picture will give you catalyst efficiency codes.
On my car, the connectors are different between the two, so be sure you get the right one.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Darn, my CEL came on again today. Luckily I was on the way to AZone anyway (brake work). P0174 again. I guess I really do need to replace the O2 sensor. Can anyway post me a photo of the correct one?
Thanks in advance.

Most of the time, this code is caused by a vacuum leak. Check for a hissing sound in the engine bay. Or use the carb cleaner spray method (spray in the suspected areas and if the engine idle increases or decreases, that would probably be the leak). Check loose hose clamps for rubber hoses and check for broken or cracked hose lines too.
From TSB.
P0174 - System Too Lean (Bank 2-Radiator side)
The Adaptive Fuel Strategy continuously monitors fuel delivery hardware. The code is set when the adaptive fuel tables reach a rich calibrated limit.
Fuel System:
· Contaminated fuel injectors
· Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel (fuel pump, filter, fuel supply line restrictions)
· Vapor recovery system (VMV)
Induction System:
· MAF contamination
· Air leaks between the MAF and throttle body
· Vacuum leaks
· PCV system concern
· Improperly seated engine oil dipstick
EGR System:
· Leaking gasket
· Stuck EGR valve
· Leaking diaphragm or EVR
Base Engine:
· Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2S
· Secondary air concern
Powertrain Control System:
· PCM concern
Edit. If you need to change an O2 sensor (of course, 114k miles is a long time for an O2 sensor), change the one on the left of this picture, the upper one (next to the filter) partially hidden by the frame. Ignore the red lines and arrow. Good luck.

So this is the sensor that I need to change, right? Not the one on the right, but the left up near the oil filter, right? (Sorry about the quick and dirty photo editing job...) Thanks everyone.
