the CEL codes list?
My CEL has been on for a couple of days, and I just had it read- P0304 which the AutoZone employee said was a misfire on cylinder 4.
I'm a automotive newbie, where should I begin looking for a problem? Is a misfire a one time occurance? Or a repeat thing? Should I just have them clear the code, or do I have a problem? Check the plug?
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You probably need: new Autolite APP764 plugs (double platinums) and a set of Autolite or Motorcraft plug wires. Check for loose wires, excess dirt on the coil pack. Or just clear the code, drive a few days, if it comes back, do the plugs/wires.

Thanks. I replaced the plugs (with Autolite double plats) and wires (Ford Racing 9mm) this year. As far as I could tell (or remember), I replaced the originals.
I'll check for loose wires, etc. then have the code cleared. If it recurs, I'll pull the plug and check it and the wire out.
Thanks for the suggestions. I just wasn't sure where to start.

You're welcome, maybe just a loose wire. I found the plug ends of the wires are tricky to snap on correctly.

I ran by another Auto Zone today, to have them reset the code. He came up with same code, and a new one. P0174- list says :
P0174 System Too Lean - Bank No. 2.
I don't know what that means. Anyone? the A. Zone guy said something about an O2 sensor after the cat. Is that something I can change myself? Are there directions anywhere?
Are these 2 codes related? Can I reset the codes myself? (The Gomer at A. Zone wouldn't reset them ... said something about the repair having to be made before...) If so, how?
Thanks for your help.

This O2 is on the front exhaust manifold facing the radiator. Unplug, unscrew, install new one.

You could also have a vacuum leak on the front cylinder bank. Frequently, oxygen sensor codes are not from a bad oxygen sensor.
It would not be the down stream oxygen sensor though. If that is what the AZone guy told you, he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Thanks for your response. Sorry to bother, but how would I check for this vacuum leak? I know where the 2 vacuum hoses on the top of the UIM are. I'll take a look at those.
That is the feeling I got from him, that he didn't really know what he was doing... He was a kid.

I can probably do that. What do an O2 sensor cost? Do you just get them from A. Zone or somewhere? Are there brands, one better than another? What do I ask for? Are there different O2 sensors?
Sorry, my ignorance is showing. I'm just learning, but appreciate the help!
