He's not completely off his rocker...

Rumored to be Dodge's Caliber Rally project. But nothing is official yet.

very soon there will be factory sponsered teams from both Dodge and Jeep divisions. Both will be running the same next-gen Lancer platform in their cars, Caliber and Compass, respectively. The engineering guys from Mitsu are heading next door to the Mopar guys, where they will be helping the new teams be the best they possibly can. Expect both new factory vehicles to be phenomenal.

So really, the WRC isn't screwed as badly as most of ya'll think. Besides, who needs Skoda and Citroen anyway? I know I don't want a friggin Citroen!

Thats a SEMA show car done up by an outside company, its no more a rally car then my Focus is. Any rally rumors about it were started on the internet by Jalopnik and are just that... internet rumors & banter.

Using Dodge/Chrysler as a WRC entrant isn't that far off:

Mitsu is half owned by DC.

Mitsu is bleeding money and isn't making it back up, their rep is taking a big hit lately too.

DC has a new econocar, what better way to showcase it than to use that in place of the Lancer in WRC and get the importfanb0i's excited ?

Mitsu will not be selling cars in a decade, mark my words. That company is going belly ass up.

AHAHAHAHAHA .. took me forever to figure that out for some reason ..

I'd totally ride a winnebago in F1, just keep hitting the cars until you're the last one standing.

well one reason this is pure BS is the fact that Dodge is only sold in the US. WRC has no US presence. Why would DC spend millions on a market that doesnt exist? While I recognize the fact that you can by the same cars as chryslers in europe, DC would be crazy to rally a neon or calibre or whatever. The last time DC did a full works WRC team was with the "big benz" cars in the late 70's-early 80s and it was only for rallys like africa. They have no history of WRC to speak of and it looks like they dont really care about it anyway. So tell me, why would they do this program again?

And even more WRC News...
Originally posted by wrc.com:

Toni Gardemeister will begin his attempts to rebuild his career after being dropped by Ford with an assault on the Monte Carlo Rally in a Peugeot 307 WRC run by the Italian Astra Racing outfit. It represents a reunion for driver and team and a return to the top level for former Lancia team Astra.

Gardemeister drove a SEAT Sport Ibiza kit car run by Astra on WRC events in the '90s and has been welcomed back to the Astra fold by team manager Luca Pregliasco, who commented: "I have some great memories from the times when we started working with Toni, and now we find ourselves working together again for this great Monte Carlo."

The Finn will be part of a strong Peugeot presence on the event, with 307 WRCs also confirmed for OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team pair Manfred Stohl and Henning Solberg. In addition French rising star Nicolas Bernardi - who drove for the factory on the closing asphalt rounds of 2005 - is tipped to appear in another 307.

Gardemeister has been here before. In 2001 he contested the Monte Carlo and Swedish Rallies in a privateer Peugeot 206 WRC after his spell as a SEAT factory driver came to an end. He finished in the top five in both rallies and before the end of the season he was back in a factory car with Skoda.

Stazi, I know is a big fan of Team Astra, I remember the stories of WRC in OZ and him driving around with the SEAT flag blazing! haha

Actually the Team Astra tidbit is pretty interesting because of their Lancia history and that earlier this year there were a lot of rumors on WRC.com about the Possibility of Lancia Returning to the WRC's top level...hmmm

Actually that was the SEAT factory team of F2 Ibiza's that DOMINATED the division for years and years - those cars were SHWEET - LOUDEST rally car I ever heard...can you say 4" exhaust with headers that had 2" primaries???? Sdaly when they switch the the WRC division they could not compete with Subaru, Mitsu, and the Pugs.

I got to meet Toni, Jesus Puras, and Harri Rovenpera at a SEAT owners night the week of Rally Australia in '96. The team was all giddy seeing my SEAT Cordoba decked out with rally mudflaps, suspension, GTI headers, wheels and "compulsory" Hella spotlights. I even had the signature painted mirrors just like the Rally cars. It was sweet following them aournd from stage to stage with my Spanish flag with "SEAT" stencilled on it, flying out the window - the support truck tooting the horn and giving me the thumbs up!

I'll try and find pics of my old SEAT and post 'em.
