Sony is claiming that the only "true" HD is 1080p, and that all other forms are simply not "true" hi-def.

When I purchased my HDTV a couple of years back, my understanding was that 720P and 1080P are true HD. See below. SDTV480I 720x480 15.75KHz 30Hz Interlaced SDTV480P 720x480 31.5KHz 60Hz Progressive HDTV1080I 1920x1080 33.75KHz 30Hz Interlaced HDTV720P 1280x720 45KHz 60Hz Progressive HDTV1080P 1920x1080 67.5KHz 60Hz Progressive Keep in mind that many local stations will claim to be broadcasting in HD when they're resolution is really much lower than what is defined as HD.
