Sony is claiming that the only "true" HD is 1080p, and that all other forms are simply not "true" hi-def.

When I purchased my HDTV a couple of years back, my understanding was that 720P and 1080P are true HD. See below.

Keep in mind that many local stations will claim to be broadcasting in HD when they're resolution is really much lower than what is defined as HD.
