You people need to understand that the Contour IS NOT the only car out in the world.

Gee, I wonder how the hi-po Monaros are doing down under. I bet those Aussies see the GTO and chuckle a little since they have had the thing for many years before (more HP too!)

I'd take the "GTO" and turn it into a Holden Monaro. They look better, too.

Monaro has more hp than 400?

hmmmm.... You sure about that? Seems like the 05 & 06 lease deals aren't that great. Now you can assume a lease on an 04 for cheap but who wants that after all the improvements in 05.

305Kw= ~410HP

Have you seen their intake???

They have ever-so-slightly more power now, but they haven't been running around at 400+hp for "many years before". And the power loss is from the added environmental crap.

They didn't break 325hp until 2004 with the VZ Monaro CV-8 which had the same LS1 with the same output as the LS1 GTO that we got in the States the same year. The 400hp+ version didn't come out until 2005, at the same time that we got the 400hp LS2 GTO.

They can "sit and chuckle" if they want. Fact is, the Monaro wouldn't have even seen the LS2 for at least 3 more years if not for the GTO.

Yep. They just went to OBD-2 a few years ago.

^^^ what he said, please point me to the $299/month lease deal for any 05+ GTO.

The GTO is based upon the Holden Monaro, but is not identical due to safety regulations here in the U.S. which required, for instance, better front/rear bumper/fascia designs, and locating the gas tank in the trunk (which sucks big time IMHO - the car has no trunk space compared to my Altima for instance). In addition, the 04 and 05 GTO's have been plagued with water leakage issues into the passenger compartment, two guys I know personally have lemon lawwed their 04 and 05 GTO's due to this issue and others are experiencing it. The Holden Monaro's do not share this water issue because the sheetmetal is a bit different IIRC. I love the understated look of the GTO's but they weigh too much (3700-3800 lbs w/o driver) for what they are IMHO. Kudos to GM on a good interior for once at least.
