Tokyo, Dec. 2 (Jiji Press)--Nissan Motor Co. said Friday it has developed an automotive paint that automatically repairs minor surface damage such as scratches.
The paint, dubbed Scratch Guard Coat, contains a transparent coating mixed with a special elastic resin. The resin helps the vehicle body recover to its original state when the surface receives light scratches at the car wash or elsewhere.
Since the resin works better at high temperatures, it takes no longer than one hour to repair minor scratches in summer, Nissan officials said. Applying hot water is similarly effective.
Nissan, which developed the paint jointly with five paint makers, plans to use it for a special edition of its X-Trail sports-utility vehicle to be launched this month. The new paint will push up vehicle prices by tens of thousands of yen. But Nissan will increase product lines with the scratch-repairing coat, which is effective for about three years, Nissan officials said.END
