It's not a double standard if a corporation has a history of discriminating practices. Take Denny's a few years back on it's refusal to serve black people or promote black workers in some of their restaurants. That was a clear case of a need for boycotting. It's just like back in the days of segregation.
The issue with Ford and it's refusal to serve the Gay community due to pressure from a conservative group doesn't compare to blatant racist practices.

Threatening boycotts because of discrimination is understandable, but threatening boycotts because you want a black contractor to get the job is not. There's a huge difference.

Are they refusing to sell cars to gay people? Please post a link to proof of that.

With the way that homosexuality is getting "politicized" on both sides of the fence, it's probably a wise business move (short-term). I can guarantee that Ford will alienate far fewer buyers and potential buyers with this move. Since Toby Keith apparently epitomizes the average Ford truck buyer in commercials and the "Dick and Jane" family shown in most minivan and car commercials, I'll give you two guesses what socio-political segment makes up most of their vehicle purchases but you should only need one...
Now, having said that, I think it's patently stupid and idiotic that someone in Ford didn't do the right thing and tell whoever championed this cause to kiss off. I would have told them that like most large businesses, Ford caters to all consumers, no matter if they are low-wage conservative Rednecks that have social tunnel-vision of epic proportions, or high-dollar flaming homos that wish to superglue peacocks to the hood of their car.
Since when should sexual orientation of a paying customer dictate advertising dollars (outside of the porn industry)? I seem to recall a time in marketing/advertising where conservative groups threw fits about any commercials or shows that depicted a "rock n' roll" lifestyle, citing that it corrupted the youth and sent the wrong signals. Furthermore, why in the Hell aren't they boycotting beer manufacturers and commercials, since alcohol is by far a more prevalent "vice" and "sin" that leads to much wider and damaging tears in the social fabric of this country...
It's not like Ford is showing models Bruce and Ben getting it on in the back of a Festiva, or models Lizzy and Tina 69'ing on the hood of an Explorer, so to me it seems some religo-Nazi organization has their panties in a complete wad.
It's sad, but I'm starting to lump many religion-based activist groups in with PETA in terms of intelligence; they are more and more becoming something to mock and ridicule vs. something with a valid argument that isn't entirely self-serving and meaningless.

God forbid...oops. A higher being forbid that a company does anything that does not go along with liberial view points Like I believe Davo said, its the same lines as Jesse Jackson and the ACLU. Its only 'racist' and 'discriminatory' when the 'radical right' or 'radical Christians' open their mouths. Do I agree with what Ford did? Nah, not really. However, if some CEO at Ford or any organization disagrees with a certain view point it is 'nice' to see a company stand its moral ground.
