This policy is not supported in Europe I believe. I wonder why that is?

My guess is that Ford Europe would not entertain such puppetry from an outside organisation. I am surprised that Ford America would. I agree that they stood to pi$$ off people either way, but siding with a religious orders does not seem to be the hip & youth way to do things.

The Ford tag line can be changed from 'Have you driven a Ford lately?' To 'Are you straight? Have you driven a Ford lately?

Bill Ford should flex some muscle and reverse this policy if they want those high dollar flamers to splash out and buy cars.

Lets be honest, who has more $$$ to spend on themselves? Single people (couples, straight/gay) or families laid with childcare costs?

i dont know what the big deal is. no self-respecting gay man would be caught dead driving a ford anyways.
they tend to prefer "cute" cars or flashy high dollar cars like bmws, porsches, audis, etc..

perhaps theyre sticking up for the poor gay man

Ok, so my pricing demographic comment relating directly to Ford was a bit off, but Ford does own Aston Martin and Jaguar, right?

Yay for European elitism/enlightenment.

Yet Ford thought it was a wise business decision. What is wrong with that? Should they take a loss just to please a specific group of people? Seems like you're advocating that they take a loss to please gays, but not a certain group of Christians. Why the double standard?

Is Ford refusing to sell vehicles to gay people?

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

They were dumb to advertise in gay magazines anyway. I mean who in their advertising department couldn't see this coming. Its not like gay people only buy cars that they see advertising for in gay magazines. When you are in marketing you should strive towards not alienating anyone, and now Ford is in a situation where they have to choose between alienating one group or another. They could have avoided the situation entirely.

That would SO not be shown during the Super Bowl. But it'd be one hell of an ad, as far as I'm concerned!

FWIW it had nothing to do with standing moral ground, and everything to do with not being able to afford to lose a group of buyers.

It'd be nice to see gays get motivated and boycott Volvo dealerships. There are a lot more gays than the 110K AFA religious wackos that signed the online petition.

It's not a double standard if a corporation has a history of discriminating practices. Take Denny's a few years back on it's refusal to serve black people or promote black workers in some of their restaurants. That was a clear case of a need for boycotting. It's just like back in the days of segregation.

Threatening boycotts because of discrimination is understandable, but threatening boycotts because you want a black contractor to get the job is not. There's a huge difference.

The issue with Ford and it's refusal to serve the Gay community due to pressure from a conservative group doesn't compare to blatant racist practices.

Are they refusing to sell cars to gay people? Please post a link to proof of that.

There's no WANT in the black contractors getting jobs. It's called spreading the wealth equally and it's been proven that minorities do not get their fair share of dollars avaailable in those instances. So there is no difference from my example.

Also, I didn't say they refused to sell cars to gay people. I said SERVE the gay community. You can discriminate by refusing to serve a certain segment in many different ways. For instance, when those agents went into Denny's they were refused service. Sure they weren't called the "N" word, but the intent was there.

Jato pretty much hit the nail on the head though. As did a few others in the post.
