i have mine open at my house (i really don't care if someone is using it. in fact, i KNOW of a couple people that do). i have more than enough bandwidth for my DLing needs and the people that are using it (two of my neighbors) are older people that use it for surfing and checking email. i'm not about to make then use some of their SS check so they can keep in touch with family.
on the flip side, i use someone else's wireless at work. we have an iDSL line (128K yuck) and they have a regular DSL (756K). it is open so i use it. i can't stand slow browsing.
