Actually, sounds like they forgot to hook the alternator back up and it wasn't charging. The smoke probably was from oil and such.

Pulling the radiator does make it a lot easier but it isn't necessary and pulling the alternator down and sticking it on the frame rail, but not pulling it all the way out makes the rear VERY easy. It is actually quicker when you plan on doing it that way from the onset. You spend a little more time up front but it pays off in easier bolt access and helps insure everything is tightened correctly.

I've done header changes in the car about 5 times. Some MSDS, some factory and 3 sets of turbo manifold/headers. The first turbo headers I used could absolutely not be installed without removing the alternator. I took a month to grow back all my skin from that one.

Honestly, I'm thinking they may be trying to be straight with him but something simple like a plug on the alternator was forgotten and he had no charging going on. From his story, he ran it till the battery died I think.

AMEN! all the bolts are right in front of you and easy to remove. The only down side is having to diconnect your ac lines and losing all your refrigerant

WHAT!! YOu are smoking crack. Without the radiator and fan assembly there is plenty of room to work there WITHOUT opening up your AC system. Just use a piece of wire to hold up the AC condenser. It can also be pulled forward like six INCHES at the bottom so that you can access everything easily.

Wow, talk about you people costing yourselves money and making more problems for yourself. Next you'll be having AC issues after it's recharged.

If any of you folks have to remove the radiator to install headers then sell your tools. Period.

The front header/manifold takes about 30 minutes to R&R. Start to finish.

it really doesnt take anylonger to remove the radiator..maybe five minutes..i'm sure you dont HAVE to remove the radiator, and it can be done with it still on the car. Just like ..."you can raise a kid without a daddy if you want to, but that doesnt make it a good f'n idea!!"

Finally got the car back to the shop today after the tow truck messed up my mirko a little (jsut more money right!!!)

The guy explained through broken english that it was the alternator but they had nothing to do with it?! Yesterday they said that they removed the alternator today they changed their story and said they "loosened the wires".

Anyone with actual experience in my potential remedies and odds with those would be in my gratitude for advice you might have

Thank You

my ac system was already out of refrigerant due to a leak, so i had no problem just disconnecting the lines.

I would rather spend the 10 minutes it takes to remove the radiator than sit under a car and blindly reach for the manifold nuts and studs with my gearwrench. period.

Yeah, get an oak stick or bat like in Walking Tall and go beat some a** until his english straightens out.
The thing to check for is loose connections on the alternator. If they told you they took it loose then they are responsible, you DIDN'T even make it HOME!
